🧰 Potential Research Support

Hello there! This page is a collection of varying ways to support researchers of technology, science, and society. This page is maintained by me, Wilfredo Flores, an assistant professor of digital cultural rhetorics at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in the Department of Writing, Rhetoric, and Digital Studies. Expect this page to expand with more options as I find them (and if you think something should be added, feel free to message me!).

Please note, in calling this "research support," I mean that some of the options below can include monetary compensation, but some will require money (mainly the workshops and such). Some of the options below will also include research support in the form of feedback and the like, with some accompanied by what we might call prestige.

Fellowships

  • ACLS Fellowships

  • Center for Civic Design: Civic Design Fellowship

  • Just Tech Fellowship

  • The Center for Black, Brown, and Queer Studies: BBQ+ Academic Fellowship Program

  • Institute for Citizens & Scholars: Career Enhancement Fellowship

Large & Small Grants

  • Whiting Foundation Grants

  • Princeton University Press Book Proposal Development Grants

  • The National Endowment for the Humanities

  • Waterhouse Family Institute Grants and Outreach

  • Community Literacies Collaboratory Grants

  • Digital Humanities Advancement Grants

  • ACLS Digital Justice Grants

    • There's options for larger grants and smaller seed grants for getting a project off the ground.

Residencies & Workshops

  • National Humanities Center Summer Residency Program

    • I did this in June 2024, and I recommend it if your univesity sponsors a spot for the summer. If not, there's always the yearlong residency, though I've heard it's incredibly competitive. Either way, if you'd like to learn about my experience, feel free to send me an email.

  • Collective Action School

  • The Institute for Rebooting Social Media Visiting Scholars Program

  • Digital IDEAS Summer Institute

    • I did this in July 2023, and I can HIGHLY recommend.
